Journalist and science communicator, Elisabetta Tola is media training specialist for Italy at Google News Lab. Focused on data and multimedia journalism, she founded the science communication agency formicablu in 2005. In 2014 she produced Seedversity, a crossmedial project on agrobiodiversity supported by the Innovation and Development Reporting Grant of the European Journalism Center. During 2016 she started working on a new investigative project on the global seed market, #SEEDcontrol, funded again by EJC. Between 2015 and 2016 she was part of the investigative team that worked on the Hearing Voices project with the support of JournalismFund, published on many diverse European media. In 2012 she co-produced, together with Guido Romeo, one of the first data-driven investigative works in Italy, #scuolesicure, on seismic safety in Italian schools. She teaches Data Journalism and Multimedia production at the Master in Science Communication at Sissa, Trieste, and in other journalism schools. For the last 11 years she has been one of the voices of Radio 3 Scienza, a daily program on air on RAI Radio3. As a freelance she has collaborated with Wired Italia, RaiExpo, L’Espresso and other media and for the websites of the Italian publisher Zanichelli. She has been one of the founders of datajournalism.it, a laboratory of data-driven stories.
